My world was full of life and joy. I had a beautiful girl, a cat and a job I thoroughly enjoyed. I worked changing oil and performing other "preventative maintenance" jobs at the local quick lube. Didn't pay much but I enjoyed the work and I felt a sense of accomplishment when I looked at my dirty, beat up hands at the end of the day. The hands of a working man. Beneath me the ocean sparkles like a carpet of brilliant rubies; reflecting only the most radiant crimsons of the morning sun as it slowly climbs the heavens at my back. Someday the winds of fate may carry those ruby waves to the distant shores of Enoshima, the most beautiful beach in all of Japan. Fuyuko, my wife, and I would visit Enoshima's sandy shores frequently during the summer as it was only a short distance from our home town Fujisawa. Together the two of us would bask in the warm summer sun, her eyes buried in a book; mine fixed steadfastly on Fuji-san, looming awesome on the distant horizon. Even in the heat of summer Mt. Fuji w
